Kimmel Mocks Trump’s Lunch With Kanye: ‘Why They Decided to Allow Cameras Into This Meeting, I Have No Idea’

Donald Trump had lunch with Kanye West on Thursday, with tons of media present, and it really was as weird as it sounds. And so Jimmy Kimmel spent a big chunk of his monologue Thursday night slinging jokes about it.

“I have to say something real quick,” Kimmel said as a prelude to his comments about the Trump-Kanye meeting. “There’s a question I get asked a lot and it’s, now that we have this President, people ask, ‘Is it easy now? It must be easy to write jokes? There is so much material. The jokes must write themselves.’

“And that’s not true. We still write the jokes ourselves and in fact in a way it makes it harder to be funny when nonsense and stupidity is pouring on your head at all times. So the jokes do not write themselves. Or should I say they did not write themselves until today. When Kanye West visited the White House.”

Kimmel wanted to emphasize just how bizarre this whole thing was as he got into it.

“You know, I kinda feel like every day I say ‘Oh, it was a crazy day. Today was the craziest day.’ This was something special. The much-anticipated lunch between Kanye and his MAGA-sty, Donald Trump, turned into so much more than just a lunch,” Kimmel said, with that “MAGA-sty” being a “Majesty” pun.

“Why they decided to allow cameras into this meeting, I have no idea. Even the people who love Donald Trump should be like, ‘Ah, maybe he’s not the best when it comes to decision-making’ after this,” Kimmel said. “Because not only was this a crazy conversation for this White House — this was the kind of conversation that would typically be held between people wearing hospital bracelets.”

Then “Jimmy Kimmel Live” showed a clip from the meeting in which Kanye ranted about various things while Trump sat in silence, with the show adding thought bubbles above Trump’s head like “So this is a black person…” and “Where the hell is MC Hammer?”

“Yeah that’s the president of the United States sitting quietly while an irrational madman rants and rave at him. Now he knows how we feel every morning when we wake up to him,” Kimmel said.

“It was Like Trump is sitting across from his own Twitter account come to life.”
