Kimberly Elise is now a married woman.

The Diary Of A Mad Black Woman star made the surprise announcement on Instagram on Saturday (Sept. 9) with a heartwarming video montage of the proposal and subsequent nuptials.

“I’m so joyful to share wonderful news with you,” wrote Elise, 56. “After being introduced by our pastor last winter, a beautiful courtship, falling in love, and lots of prayer, we became engaged. Then, on August 19, 2023, we were blessed to become husband and wife. We made a covenant of holy matrimony before our closest friends, family, and most importantly before God.”

The devout Christian continued, “The Lord has blessed us with each other, and we are so excited to bring Him glory in our life together. It’s so amazing because we were both quietly living our individual lives and in obedience to God with no idea that love was around the corner. After we met, we soon knew God’s hand of providence brought us to one another. One never knows the plans [Yahweh] has for our lives, but without a doubt, His are always the best plans! All glory to God! Love, Mr. and Mrs. George E. and Kimberly Elise McCrary.”

Friends of the actress—who’s best known for her roles in Set It Off, John Q, Hit The Floor, Almost Christmas, and of course the aforementioned Tyler Perry production—flooded the comments with a slew of well wishes.

Tasha Smith wrote, “Congratulations beautiful! What a blessing!!!!!!” Loni Love added, “God bless your union.. you were a gorgeous bride!!!” Chrisette Michele replied, “I LOVE this story. Congratulations.” Harlem star, Grace Byers shared, “Just perfect! Congratulations!! God is so good.”

Meanwhile, fans took over her mentions with a few witty zingers. One wrote, “He better not play with my girl or we gone put him in the tub!” Another expressed, “She deserve happiness bc what Charles did to her will never sit right with me” and someone else responded, “I bet Charles punching the air right now lol.”

All of these reactions reference Elise’s iconic role as Helen in Perry’s feature film debut from 2005. The film, which also stars Shemar Moore in a braided wig, is currently streaming on YouTube.
