Kim Kardashian's Less Than Warm Welcome at Tom Brady Roast Hints That Her Influence Is Declining

Kim Kardashian did not have the best night at Netflix’s live event, The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady. After being introduced by roast master Kevin Hart, she was greeted by an overwhelming round of boos coming from the audience. Even after she tried to start her monologue, the negative reaction only got louder. It’s a shocking turn of events for the 43-year-old reality star who has been at the top of the world for almost two decades.

While there have been hints that the Kardashian family was losing some of its influence over the years, the tide seemed to turn faster during the pandemic. It was hard to feel sorry for wealthy celebrities who were quarantined in their multi-million dollar mansions while the average American experienced a very different side to the lockdown. Now, Kim’s appeal only seems geared toward her diehard fans, not the masses who have long since moved on.

In January, ELLE pointed out that the family’s products are no longer selling out on launch day and the pushback from critics is real. Evoluted believes that Kim’s decline started with her decision to wear the Marilyn Monroe dress at the 2022 Met Gala. From her crash diet to fit the gown to the allegations that the historic piece was torn because the fabric was so delicate. “I’m frustrated because it sets back what is considered professional treatment for historic costume,” Sarah Scaturro, chief conservator at the Cleveland Museum of Art told The Los Angeles Times. “In the ’80s, a bunch of costume professionals came together to state a resolution that historic costumes should not be worn. So my worry is that colleagues in historic costume collections are now going to be pressured by important people to let them wear garments.”

If it’s not the red carpet or their Hulu show, The Kardashians, Kim seems to be mired in controversy every other month. We’re pretty sure Taylor Swift’s alleged diss track, “thanK you aIMee” doesn’t help her image either. The Tortured Poets Department single’s first verse seems to point to Kim right away: “When I picture my hometown / There’s a bronze, spray-tanned statue of you / And a plaque underneath it / That threatens to push me down the stairs at our school / And it was always the same searing pain / But I dreamed that one day I could say.” Swift described Kim as a “bully” in her 2019 ELLE essay, writing, “In my experience, I’ve come to see that bullies want to be feared and taken seriously. A few years ago, someone started an online hate campaign by calling me a snake on the internet.” Those snake emojis are coming back to haunt Kim.

In the end, being too famous is an issue and this is the crossroad Kim finds herself in. Perhaps a step back from the spotlight would do her good — hey, it worked for Lindsay Lohan. But she seems to flourish when the attention is on her, except maybe this time. Fans are fickle and they can crush you almost as fast as they built you up, and Kim has been on quite a long ride.
