After the Met Gala, the star took a special trip to London so acclaimed couturier Mister Pearl could remake the iconic corset for her fashion archive
Roger: I remember NAFTA! We were told we would lose a couple hundred thousand low paying unskilled jobs, but they would be replaced with high tech jobs. But none of our politicians knew, or cared about all the spin off jobs NAFTA would wipe out. When a textile mill in a small town that employed 200 people closed and moved to Mexico, that small town suddenly lost another 50 jobs at the grocery and hardware stores that closed. The the local restaurant closed. In mid sized towns that had 2 or 3 textile factories that closed and 500 or 700 jobs disappeared over night, the Supply Side Economics kicked in, and the rich got richer, and the middle class got poorer. NAFTA was a Republican from the Reagan era that Bill President G.H. Bush would not sign, because he seems to have know what the long term impact would be. When President Clinton finally signed off on NAFTA, the republicans also finally got all the democrat support they needed. President Trump knows less about how International Trade and Tariffs work, than my Cat does. He proved it every time he said China was paying his Tariffs, but it is documented that our USA Treasury Department took in the money from American consumers. President Trump has no idea that a ship load of TV's and Cell Phone's coming here from China, is worth a lot more than a ship load of our Soybeans going to China. As for Mexico and Canada, the big advantage they have over us is affordable health care. The ever increasing cost of Group Health Insurance is why so many companies have moved their manufacturing to other countries, and why so many other companies now use mostly part time employees. In all other industrialized countries companies do not even consider the cost of health insurance when hiring people. In the good ole USA companies do everything they can to avoid the ever increasing cost of group health insurance. The box of Quaker Instant Oatmeal i bought yesterday was Made in Canada. They used to be made here. That goes for a lot of food products. Canada has a similar regulations, tax laws, lifestyle, and cost of living as we do, so why have so many of our factories moved there? To get away from paying 12% in payroll for group health insurance! Which ends up being half what we pay for health care. Maybe instead of his failed Trade Wars, President Trump could have just implemented his better cheaper plan for health care he campaigned on in 2016?
