Kim Kardashian’s legal ambitions came from an intense connection to her late dad, Robert Kardashian. He’s best remembered as one of the lawyers on O.J. Simpson’s defense team after being charged in the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman in 1994.

Robert never shielded her or older sister Kourtney from the polarizing case, but it wasn’t an easy time for the family since their mom and dad sat on opposite sides of the courtroom. Robert and ex-wife Kris Jenner also didn’t see eye-to-eye on how to handle the case behind closed doors either — it caused quite a division in their family life.
Kim recalled to GQ the time her dad excused her and Kourtney from school “to witness a piece of history and what a trial is like.” She shared, “We walked in and saw my mom sitting on the other side. She said, ‘You’re supposed to be in school. What are you doing here?’ Kourtney and I didn’t even look at her.” Kris firmly believed that the former football star was guilty of murdering her best friend, but Robert, at the time, doubled down on his innocence. (That stance later changed before his death.)
The trial took place only three years after Robert and Kris’ divorce and she was already remarried to Caitlyn Jenner by then. The hurt feelings from the split were only magnified by a sensational double murder case covered all over the globe. But in that moment, Kim felt a deep connection to her dad that likely drives her passion to become a lawyer to this very day.
