Kim Kardashian Just Debuted Rooty Platinum Hair for Spring

A pre-Met transformation perhaps?

The thing about dying your hair is that it's going to grow out. Some colorists prep you for this, with expert shadow roots, balayages, and the like. But if you want a full head of platinum hair, you're going to have to make it back to the salon regularly—or rock those roots, baby. Kim Kardashian, for her part, is choosing to rock the roots.

On April 27, the middle Kardashian sister attended Homeboy Industries' 2024 Lo Maximo Awards and Fundraising Gala in Los Angeles wearing a (faux?) fur coat and sporting a head of freshly dyed platinum hair complete with dark roots. If you, like me as of an hour ago, are wondering what Homeboy Industries is, they're the largest gang rehabilitation and re-entry program in the world—Jane Fonda and Babyface were also in attendance at the event.

Although she was a full-on brunette just two days earlier while attending a roundtable discussion on criminal justice reform at the White House, the day-and-a-half of prep time between events supposedly gave miss Kimberly Noel enough time to jump coasts, undergo multiple bleaching sessions, and grow out her roots a little bit (yes, I know her hairstylist Chris Appleton just kept them dark, but it's fun to pretend she has more time than any of us).

The Skims founder is a notorious hair chameleon, but I still have to wonder what exactly this bleach-job was for. Could it be in anticipation of the Met Gala next Monday? Is she going to pull a King Kylie and go with a fashion color, with this being just one step of the process?

Anything can happen, so for now we'll focus on what we do know. At Saturday's event, Kardashian wore her freshly dyed hair pulled back in a bun with just one loose section decorating her face. In an Instagram post, Appleton dubbed the new shade "ice kimmy."

"We wanted to keep a short root & the blonde cool & creamy," he wrote. "I colored it in a couple of sessions to keep the integrity of the hair nice and juicy."

Exactly a month before her new color debut, Appleton shared a separate Instagram post with a throwback to his client's most recent blonde hair era, noting that he was "campaigning to bring the blonde back."

From a White House round table to a Los Angeles salon chair, sometimes change actually can happen—as long as Kim Kardashian is involved.
