The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers chats with Kyle Meredith about the band’s upcoming best-of collection, the newly announced Rebel Diamonds. Flowers touches on how the band’s new single, “Your Side of Town,” pays homage to the music he listened to in his teenage years, his current relationship with some of The Killers’ earliest tunes, and the large vault of unreleased Killers songs. He goes on to explain how they choose which tracks would eventually land on the best-of collection.
Inspired by their previous best-of record from over a decade ago, Flowers divulges how the band balances older classic material with new favorites. “We took that into consideration,” he says. “We wanted to put in a couple songs from our COVID records, so that they could get a light shined on them that maybe wasn’t. So those records were Imploding the Mirage and Pressure Machine, which [have] some of our strongest writing.”
The frontman also discusses his attraction to writing narratives and the type of characters that populated last year’s Pressure Machine. Then, he points out the role of religion in his songs and admits he is working on a new tunes that might lead to a solo album. Lastly, he recalls a full-circle conversation he recently had with Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder regarding Kenny Rodgers.
