EXCLUSIVE: A true-crime series exploring a possible serial killer in the Portland area is in the works.

Back Roads Entertainment, which was founded by Colby Gaines, who was the co-founder of Pawn Stars producer Leftfield Pictures, has teamed up with Category 6 Media, which is part of A+E Factual Studios, to develop Killer Portland (w/t).

The two companies have secured rights and exclusive access to key individuals involved in the case in Portland, Oregon, which has seen a number of women murdered this year.

The project tells the story of determined families who initiated their own investigations into the unsolved murders of their loved ones. Working alongside citizen journalists and armchair sleuths, they uncovered crucial evidence that prompted a multi-agency investigation that is now bringing justice to the victims and exposing the evil lurking within the city.

It was developed by Tiff Winton and Craig Bland with Colby Gaines and Alexis O’Donnell for Back Roads and Steve Ascher for Category 6 Media. Gaines, Bland, Winton, Ascher and Sharon Scott exec produce with Alexis O’Donnell as a producer.

Backroads Entertainment and Winton are repped by Artists Group Unscripted, which is packaging the project.

“Portland is a city with unmatched beauty. But it also has a dark underbelly,” said Gaines. “Killer Portland shines a light on the depth of dysfunction, drugs, and despair while chronicling the extremes moms will go to, to close their murdered daughters’ cases and clean up the city in the process.”

“We are pleased to partner with Back Roads Entertainment on Killer Portland,” added Steve Ascher, EVP, Development for A+E Factual Studios. “This is the remarkable story of everyday Americans who band together in an effort to solve a series of murders. We are humbled that the victims’ families have entrusted us with telling the story of their quest for justice.”
