On Sunday (Feb. 4), Killer Mike won three Grammy Awards for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song — all from his latest LP, MICHAEL, and one of its biggest standouts, the André 3000, Future and Eryn Allen Kane-assisted “SCIENTISTS & ENGINEERS.” Upon taking to the stage to accept his final trophy, the veteran MC couldn’t contain his excitement.

“Atlanta, it’s a sweep!” he said emphatically during the Grammy Awards pre-show ceremony as Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul celebrated his peer nearby. “You cannot tell me that you get too old. You can’t tell me it’s too late. You can’t tell me! Dreams come true! It is a sweep!”

Today (Feb. 5), Killer Mike reposted and reacted to flowers that he received from fans on social media, which included an uplifting tweet from Audiomack Co-founder and SVP of Operations Brian Zisook. “Over the past 24 years, Killer Mike has released six solo albums, five mixtapes and four LPs with El-P has one-half of Run The Jewels,” the executive wrote. “No No. 1s. No top 10 hits. His last Billboard charting song was in 2003. Tonight, he won three Grammys — at 48 years young. Keep going.”

Following the Grammys pre-show, Killer Mike spoke to reporters backstage about how it felt to be honored in such a way. “It feels absolutely grand,” he stated. “And I want to encourage people out there that are chasing their dreams, if it feels like you’re slower, if it feels like some other people are reaching the finish line first or ahead of you, don’t worry, just keep running your race. Keep running your race and be grand in your plans. If you think you can jump 20 feet, convince yourself you can jump 40. If you convince yourself you can make one hit song, make 10 hit songs.”
