Kilburn Mill invites guests to its Halloween happenings on Saturday. Here's what we know.

NEW BEDFORD -- Plenty of spooky and Halloween fun is happening at the Kilburn Mill on Saturday, featuring a Halloween Extravaganza, a Halloween "Meet Me at the Mill" as well as a chance to meet the local mural artists featured in the "On the Wall Posters: Street Art" book.

"I love when they have events like that because the energy comes alive in this mill in ways that no one can imagine," said a longtime Kilburn tenant Stacey Grace, who owns Readings by Stacey on the first floor.

The Kilburn Mill's annual "Halloween Meet Me At The Mill" event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring a variety of exciting activities for all ages in an open house format. Guests are invited to browse local vendors and also spin- the-wheel for a chance to win a plethora of FREE things to do in the mill.

"It’s like a family here to be honest, I am coming up on my 2 years here and to see the growth is amazing. There are so many things to see and experience in here," Grace said.

In honor of the Halloween event, she will be offering flash Tarot readings for $20 as well as some spooky treats for children. Guests are also invited to wear their best costume for trick or treating at different shops throughout the building.

"I always look forward to MMATM days, we also have Korie Ellis of Falling Off Trees in the shop for the Botanical Dyeing Edition of our month long, one year anniversary celebration," said Claudia DeSouza-Baptista, owner of Bushwood Tailors Opportunity Shop on the first floor.

"Of course there will also be lots of cute kiddos running around in costumes for the trick or treating which is always fun."

Meet the local muralists behind new book

The local New Bedford mural artists who are featured in "On the Wall Posters: Street Art" will be present on the first floor's event center from noon to 2 p.m. The book, which includes 11 x 14 posters, will be available for purchase at Footprints Bookshop during the event.

These posters are perfect for decorating any space, including bedrooms and dorm rooms. Fans can even get autographs and more insight on the design by the artists.

"Saturday will be a great opportunity to not only meet the artists who have brought and continue to bring art experiences through murals to New Bedford but to have them tag their individual posters showcased in this colorful, coffee table-sized book," said Kim Goddard, program manager.

"We know it’s going to be a fun-filled day with plenty to do in New Bedford, and hope everyone will make Kilburn Mill their first stop as they make their way downtown in their Halloween best."

Halloween Extravaganza

For a chance to win first place and take home $150 in cash, Thatcher's Halloween Extravaganza will run from 8 p.m. to midnight on the third floor of the Kilburn Mill. Thatcher performs heavy metal music and alternative covers.

Three new murals to check out

The New Bedford Arts and Cultural Emporium (NBACE) hosted Kilburn Mill’s first indoor mural slam on Oct. 12, inviting guests to check out the three newly installed murals on the first and second floors by artists Autumn Liv Cyr, Joshua Letourneau and Kateland Feuti.

“I saw all these blank walls in the Kilburn Mill, and when you're an artist and you see blank white walls, you just can't help yourself,” said Karen Charbonneau Zukas, founder and executive director of the NBACE.

"I’m excited to see the kiddos dressed up," said Jaden Reyes, owner of Brown Suga Stationery & Print Shop, who will be manning Footprints Book Shop while the owner is at the book signing event in the event center.
