How about lessons in honesty, adversity, friendship, and bravery. Not to mention, the easiest way to whitewash a fence, the quickest wart-removal remedy, and how to throw the liveliest of funerals!

Oak Ridge Junior Playhouse brings to life Mark Twain’s beloved classic novel, "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," on stage Sept. 9 and 10. In an adaptation by Reggie Law, we follow the curious and imaginative Tom Sawyer (Jonah Rawlings) and his comrades through this moral tale of youth, set during a time when life was much different than it is now.

Full of memorable characters like Huckleberry Finn (Joshua Kerstelter), Becky Thatcher (Julia Heaton), and Devil Joe (Hayden Toon), this play is truly one for the ages.

Presenting the first poignant portrayal of boyhood in America, it’s no wonder this gem is considered a literary masterpiece. The novel changed the course of children’s literature in America after its publication in 1876 and would go on to become the best seller of all Twain’s works.

Whether you're learning the story for the first time or revisiting an old friend, it’s difficult to deny the heart and humor still palpable in a well-meaning boy such as Tom Sawyer.

This family-friendly treasure runs three performances only. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased online at www.orplayhouse.com, or by calling the box office at 865-482-4877.
