'He kidnaps children': Judd Apatow blasts Geraldo Rivera for describing Trump as 'charismatic' and a 'movie star'
One can only imagine that Geraldo Rivera knew the response he would get for piling on compliments while tweeting about Donald Trump, and the internet — leading with an unamused Judd Apatow — delivered.
The Fox News personality and occasional shirtless selfie taker heaped praise on the president for his Rose Garden press conference Monday that touched on a variety of topics, from the trade agreement among the United States, Mexico, and Canada (USMCA) to his prized pick for the Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh. Rivera said that Trump “is definitely getting better & deeper” in dealing with the media and that his “performance” showed a “strengthening grasp of issues.”
@realDonaldTrump is definitely getting better & deeper in dealing w press. Today’s Rose Garden performance demonstrated a strengthening grasp of issues & a less confrontational way of handling controversies. On #BrettKavanaugh he was fair in demanding fairness.

His post led more than one person to ask this important question:

Rivera then responded with a lengthier post with even more Trump love. He called the reality TV star turned politico “charismatic,” an “original,” and — wait for it — a “movie star.” The last got big laughs, considering that Trump has only played himself — aka a rich businessman — in a handful of films. He has also appeared in a softcore porn flick.
Detractors of @realDonaldTrump miss my point. Love him or hate him, he’s a movie star, charismatic & original & the more he’s on the air sounding reasonable & conciliatory-like today-the more his audience (we) forget(s) what it is they don’t like about him. https://t.co/SHUM0RjYPU

Rivera received many reasonable responses to his over-the-top accolades.
Wait. A. minute. Is it charisma when the President tells a female reporter "you never think"? Or was it when he suggested he may blackmail a Senator? Or was it when he told us he fell in love with a dictator who writes him nice letters?

One response getting lots of likes and retweets came from director Judd Apatow, who was very direct in his message, which referenced the administration’s controversial policy of separating families at the border and boiled down to: “You’ve completely lost your mind”; stick to exposing “bad conditions at mental institutions”; and “he kidnaps children.”
You’ve completely lost your mind. We liked you better when you were helping expose bad conditions at mental institutions. Who cares about charisma? He kidnaps children. https://t.co/r6i8tw5ddA

Rivera had long been on Team Trump. He appeared on Season 14 of Celebrity Apprentice in 2015 and was the runner-up.
