The Kid Mero has given more details regarding his split from Desus Nice.

During a recent episode of his 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, Mero revisited the issue. He explained what happened from his perspective and stated that their different lifestyles contributed to the brand’s downfall.

“At first I was upset, it’s the business. There’s no friends in the business,” he told Joe Budden and Carmelo Anthony. “We was in a situation where I got four kids, two mortgages—I got real-life situations going on so I’m like, ‘Yo, if we get an offer from DraftKings for 1.5 [million]’… and you’re like, ‘Nah bro, this ain’t it’ and I’m like ‘This is going places bro we need to do this.’ And you’re like, ‘Nah.’ I’m like, ‘F**k outta here.’ To me, that’s like the beginning of [the end]. This sh*t is like corroded. We’re on different wavelengths.”

He then detailed how a potential movie with director Judd Apatow wedged a deeper divide between him and Nice. Mero reiterated that his former Desus & Mero co-host was on a different type of time.

“The next level of Hollywood is the three of us, Desus, Victor [Lopez], and myself, sitting down with Judd Apatow and saying, ‘Yo, we’re gonna do a movie.’ And then the movie gets written, and Desus was like, ‘I ain’t really feeling this sh*t.'”

“I know in the business mind, is like, yo, when you do a movie with this guy, you’re not just doing a movie with this guy, this dude is a kingmaker in the film industry,” The Kid Mero added. “If you get in there, you make a banger with him. You solidified. That’s what takes you up to the next level. If you get a little taste of that Hollywood, get a couple [of] Rollies and sh*t, you get access to things, and you good with that? That’s not the type of time I was on.”

Desus Nice caught wind of the clip and responded. He quote xweeted a gif of a big baseball cap to insinuate that Mero was lying.

In 2022, Desus & Mero ended after four seasons. Puck News reported at the the time that the partnership ended over management disputes. Sources close to the situation corroborated the story, claiming that their manager, Victor Lopez, was often told to stay away from the set. Showtime notified Lopez to “no longer attend tapings or appear in meetings.” The network also accused Victor of “bullying, screaming, and making people on the show feel bad.” Mero allegedly sided with Lopez while Nice sided with Showtime.
