Kid Cudi believes he has what it takes to be the host and musical guest on an episode of Saturday Night Live, as the rapper has publicly plead his case to simultaneously wear both hats in the future.

On Tuesday morning (Feb. 20), the Ohio native took to X, formerly Twitter, to put his bid in to grace the Saturday Night Live stage. “Dear SNL, I am beyond qualified to host and be musical guest on the show,” Cudi wrote, adding “my line is always open.”

If the eclectic rap crooner were to be have his wish granted, he would be among the rare musical artists that have been able to pull off both roles in a single appearance on the legendary late-night show.

Kid Cudi has already appeared on SNL as a musical guest twice, first in 2018 and more recently in 2021, but has never served as host of the show. However, he has appeared in sketches on the show, including a music video for the song “Weird Little Flute” alongside SNL cast members Pete Davidson and Chris Redd.

Cudi’s 2021 SNL performance saw him pay tribute to late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain by wearing a white dress during a performance of his song “Sad People.” The hitmaker’s choice of attire resulted in critique and backlash from some detractors, causing Cudi to clap back at pointed comments regarding him wearing the flowery garment.

“A black man cant [sic] express himself and be confident AND successful with out [sic] it being some conspiracy,” the 40-year-old wrote on social media shortly after the airing of his performance.

“My success was givin to me by God with the help of my many angels,” he added. “All u people in the commenfs [sic] that have been tweetin me all day about this sh*t can gargle on my mayo.

“This moment was a proud moment for me, a shinin moment for all people who express themselves in their art. I felt free and alive, it inspired people and nothing u stupid simple a**es say can take that away from me. Happy New Year u f**kin simps.”
