Hip-Hop would be nothing without the DJs and producers. Four legends, namely Kid Capri, Scott Storch, DJ Spinderella, and Kool DJ Red Alert were recognized throughout the evening during the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards.

Capri got a special moment onstage as he went back-and-forth with DJ D-Nice early in the Tuesday evening (Oct. 10) show. The duo transitioned between classic records like JAY-Z’s “PSA,” Luniz and Michael Marshall’s “I Got 5 On It,” 2 Chainz’s “Birthday Song,” Roscoe Dash’s “All The Way Turnt Up,” Ludacris’ “Move Bi**h,” and more.

The other three got individual sets throughout the night as well. Scott Storch glided across the piano keys and played Joey Crack’s “Lean Back.” Fat Joe also took the time to shout out DJ Spinderella for being every guy’s crush and showed his gratitude to Kool DJ Red Alert for being the first DJ to play his demo.

At the end of the show, the aforementioned DJs and producers plus DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Drama, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, and more joined Joe on stage for a final sendoff, where he reminded attendees that Hip-Hop would be nothing without these people. Check out the footage of their sets above.

Timbaland and Swizz, two legendary producers in their own right, were also honored with the Rock The Bells Cultural Influence Award. “I always dreamed I would be on a stage accepting an award about Hip-Hop,” Timbo said in his speech. “Doing music back in Virginia, I never thought I would make it but now I’m here.”

Timbo spoke on creating Verzuz alongside Swizz celebrating the fact it is Black-owned, and how it will be back soon before Swizz got into his speech. “I want to dedicate this award to all the producers coming from nothing, making it into something,” Beatz said. “To all the creatives, all of the artists, and I also want to dedicate this award to my Ruff Ryda family.” Check it out below.
