Khloe Kardashian explains why she and Scott Disick 'started holding hands' (Exclusive)

Khloe Kardashian and Scott Disick know that people think they've been romantically involved, but as Khloe recently explained to a rude Instagram commenter, their relationship is "completely platonic" and always has been.

That doesn't mean, though, that they haven't jokingly played into the rumors.

During a recent sit-down with AOL's Gibson Johns to promote their E! shows "Revenge Body" and "Flip It Like Disick," the hilarious duo shared the stories behind some of their wildest moments together -- including one of the many times they've been photographed holding hands in public.

Explaining an Instagram post from December 2014 in which they're holding hands (it was also a moment seen on "Keeping Up With the Kardashians"), Khloe said that they starting doing so after a misunderstanding from years earlier.

"Scott and I, the reason why we started holding hands was because in Vegas, we were going for Kim's birthday, and we were walking down the red carpet and Scott went to grab Kourtney's hand, but he accidentally grabbed mine and everyone got pictures," Khloe explained to AOL. "It was for, like, a second, but everyone got pictures and thought we were, like, together or whatever -- over a hand hold! -- so then we just started f--king with everyone."

Fans of the Kardashians know that Khloe and Scott have always had an especially chummy relationship, and they've become known for pranking their family members -- Todd Kraines and Art Vandelay, anyone? -- so their messing with the paparazzi and the public's perception of their relationship shouldn't come as a surprise.

Despite the ups and downs of Scott's relationship with Kourtney, from whom he split in July 2015 but successfully co-parents their three children, Mason, Penelope and Reign with, Khloe and Scott have remained close through the years, and she recently reflected on their friendship in a May birthday post.

"Happy birthday to my brother @letthelordbewithyou !!! I am so thankful to have such an incredible addition such as you to our family! We have come such a long way, you and I! I am so thankful for the person that you have grown into," she wrote. "I am thankful for every highs and lows because we have been through it all and we are closer than ever. I am proud to say that you are my brother and also one of my best friends! Have the best birthday Lord!! FOREVER the Lord and the Lady."

Season 3 of "Revenge Body" premieres on Sunday, July 7, at 9 p.m. EST, and "Flip It Like Disick" premieres on Sunday, August 4, at 10 p.m. EST -- both on E!
