The Prince Charles Cinema in London will not let Kevin Spacey be frank.

The theater was set to host the premiere of Welsh thriller Control, the actor's first new movie since his recent sexual assault trial, but has now retracted its offer after learning of Spacey's presence in the project.

Per The Telegraph, in an email to the film's co-star and producer Lauren Metcalfe, Greg Lynn, who runs the theater, wrote, "Last night it came to our attention that your film features Kevin Spacey, in particular his first film since the court case," presumably referring to the U.K.-based trial where the actor was found not guilty of multiple accounts of sexual assault. "My staff as well as I are horrified that we are being mentioned in the same breath as his new film for the premiere," Lynn continued.

Metcalfe told The Telegraph that the notice came "out of the blue," stating, "It was very shocking given that Kevin has been cleared. He has been proven to be innocent and who are they to say otherwise? Kevin Spacey has done nothing wrong."

Representatives for Spacey did not immediately respond to EW's request for comment.

Spacey's involvement in Control would be easy to miss, as the actor doesn't actually appear on camera. Instead, he recorded a small voice performance, acting opposite Metcalfe via voiceover in scenes in which she talks on the phone.

A representative for Metcalfe told Variety that the Control team arranged to hold the premiere at the Genesis Cinema within a day of Lynn's cancellation. "Whilst we were briefly disappointed, we have found a much better and more appropriate venue, and one that is happy to be hosting the event," the rep said.

In the July trial, the House of Cards actor was found not guilty on nine charges, including multiple counts of sexual assault. The case saw four men accuse Spacey of sexually assaulting them in London between 2001 and 2013, and Spacey said that encounters with two of these men were consensual, the third one was a "clumsy pass," and the fourth one never happened.

Since a multitude of accusations against the actor surfaced in 2017, Spacey has only appeared in two films, both from 2022: the docudrama Once Upon a Time in Croatia and drama The Man Who Drew God, the latter of which saw his performance dubbed into Italian by Roberto Pedicini.
