Kevin Smith Brings ‘Batman’ Nostalgia to ‘The Goldbergs’

Film director and writer Kevin Smith helmed Wednesday’s episode of The Goldbergs. His shift to TV was a fitting one, as Smith directed an episode that mostly centered on the characters watching the 1989 Tim Burton film Batman, starring Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson, and Kim Basinger.

Adam, Pops, and Barry had differing opinions of the film. Pops longed for the Batman that starred Adam West. He lamented the missing “Zips” and “Pows.” Pops showed Adam the classic TV show. Adams was puzzled about why anyone would have Bat-Shark Repellant. The debate stretched the entire episode.

Movie debates are a hallmark of Kevin Smith’s films, and the director was able to deliver on the motif while continuing the charm of The Goldbergs.

The Goldbergs airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC. Watch clips and full episodes of The Goldbergs for free on Yahoo View.
