Kevin Porter Jr. Charged With Felony Assault And Strangulation Of Girlfriend

NBA star Kevin Porter Jr. has been arrested and charged with felony assault and strangulation following an alleged altercation that left his girlfriend in critical condition.
The incident between Porter Jr. and the alleged victim, Kysre Gondrezick, occurred on Monday (Sept. 11) in a hotel room at the Millennium Hilton in Manhattan. According to reports, Gondrezick was asleep at the time the Houston Rockets shooting guard began physically assaulting her, punching Gondrezick multiple times and choking her around the neck.
Porter’s assault allegedly continued until a bloody Gondrezick managed to escape from the room and into the hallway. The victim reportedly suffered multiple injuries during the incident, including a fractured neck vertebra and a deep cut above her right eye.
Porter Jr. has pleaded not guilty to the charges and has since posted bail, which was set at $75,000 cash or $100,000 bond. As a stipulation of his release, Porter Jr. was prohibited from having any contact with Gondrezick, who also accused the basketball star of abusing her on multiple occasions during their relationship. “This is a serious domestic violence case,” Assistant Manhattan District Attorney Mirah Curzer said on Tuesday (Sept. 12) during Porter Jr.’s arraignment.
A former WNBA player, Gondrezick spent time with the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky and is currently a free agent. Porter Jr., who attended USC before being drafted into the NBA, has a checkered history involving alleged violence. Reporter Jackson Gatlin revealed an instance in which Porter Jr. broke a DJ’s equipment during a team outing at a nightclub two seasons ago.
“They were out at a club apparently and there was a disagreement I guess with the DJ in the club and KPJ took the laptop of said DJ and smashed it on the floor. Just completely destroyed it and started tearing the place up and the Rockets, they immediately got him out of there,” Gatlin reported.
Porter is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 16.
