Kevin Hart on Hosting Oscars: ‘I Would Be Great at It’

Kevin Hart was a guest on the third hour of Today and was asked by co-host Carson Daly about his interest in hosting the Oscars. “It’s going to happen when it’s supposed to,” Hart said. “I’m not rushing it. I think when it does happen, I would be great at it. It’s something else to say that I’ve done in my career. And when that time comes, I’ll be ready. But there’s no rush.”

That’s a more measured response than Hart has previously given. He came across very eager for the gig when Michael Strahan brought it up on Live back in 2015. “You said you might want to host the Oscars someday,” Strahan said. “There’s no might about it,” Hart quickly replied. “I definitely want to. I’m starting my campaign by just getting everybody to say it so I can put it in their heads.”

In August, the Hollywood Reporter listed Hart as one of the contenders to emcee the evening. They did note, however, that some decision makers are upset with him for going off script as he introduced the Weeknd in the 2016 ceremony, a moment that actually saw him be censored.
