Kevin Durant calls out Montrezl Harrell for comments on Nic Claxton
When the Philadelphia 76ers matched up with the Brooklyn Nets on Jan. 25, the focus was supposed to be on Joel Embiid vs. Ben Simmons. It was, after all, the first matchup between the two stars since the big 2022 deadline deal, but things turned to two other players.
Sixers big man Montrezl Harrell had a comment about Nets starter Nic Claxton when he was asked about the young big man. Harrell kept the focus on Kyrie Irving in terms of the defensive focus Philadelphia was going to have for the game. Claxton then fired back at Harrell for the comments which has now led to Kevin Durant stepping up for Claxton.
Durant said this about Harrell:
Montrezl? Come on, Montrezl. He was talking crazy. Like Montrezl is not like that. Like you’re an enforcer as a basketball player, but you’re not that guy like come on, man. Clax ishaving a good year bro. Come on now. Don’t do that…there was a little shade in that! There was a little shade in that…Like, of course Kyrie’s the head of the snake. Just like Joel Embiid is the head of the snake, but we’re not gonna forget about Tobias Harris and Tyrese Maxey and you, and James (Harden), but come on bro. Give somebody some credit fam. It ain’t that hard.
"You not like that. You're an enforcer as a basketball player, but you're not that guy. Clax is having a good year. There was a little shade in that."

Durant isn’t necessarily wrong when it comes to Harrell and his role on the Sixers. He is more of an enforcer than anything. Claxton also played very well in that game against the Sixers, but Harrell is a former 6th Man of the Year winner and a good player in this league. He isn’t a star or anything, but he is a good player.
The Sixers and the Nets next match up on Feb. 11 at the Barclays Center.
