Kevin Costner's Lawyer Has No Time for Christine Baumgartner's Latest Divorce Court Request

Kevin Costner’s lawyer, Laura Wasser, seems to have had it up to here with Christine Baumgartner’s divorce court demands. The high-powered Hollywood attorney fired off a harsh response to the court after Costner’s estranged wife requested to have him pay $885,000 in legal fees.

TMZ reported that Baumgartner wanted a “mini-trial” for one particular issue in their prenuptial agreement: whether “her waiver of spousal support is enforceable.” Her legal team is estimating it will cost that astronomical amount to research and prepare for the case, but Wasser is calling their bluff. She did the math and noted that it would work out to “1,106 hours to justify the fee,” which she described as “nothing short of outrageous.” Costner’s lawyer believes this is another tactic to get more money out of him, especially since the judge has already determined that “the prenup is enforceable.”

Baumgartner has struggled to gain footing in the divorce case after child support was determined. She had asked for $248,000 per month, Costner offered to give her $75,000 per month, but she took her chances in court and the judge awarded her $63,000 per month. It might be time to take the settlement offer and run as the legal bills quickly escalate. The media outlet noted that if she decides to challenge the prenup she signed in 2004, she risks losing $1 million that he already gave her and “pay his lawyer’s fees.

The contentious case has been making headlines for weeks as the former duo battled it out over everything from housing to furnishings. Their child support case also revealed just how luxurious their lifestyle is — it’s a one-percenter type of life. Baumgartner is prepared to go back to school and find her career passion, but she also wants to be present for their three children, Cayden, 16, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 13, and make sure their lives are stable after such a tumultuous year.
