Now that Christine Baumgartner’s relationship with Josh Connor has been revealed, the paparazzi were dying to know how Kevin Costner felt about the situation, especially since the financier and his then-wife were friends and Montecito neighbors with the 69-year-old actor and Baumgartner. Well, they came through with the soundbite of the century from the Yellowstone star.
The cameraman found him at LAX on Wednesday and asked for his reaction about his ex-wife dating his neighbor, in footage obtained by Entertainment Tonight. “I don’t have a next-door neighbor,” Costner quipped. Fair enough, but the paparazzo wasn’t going to stop there. He clarified his question, “It’s all over the news, your ex-wife is dating your ex-neighbor. You have any thoughts on that, no?”

Costner didn’t give a verbal response, but his look into the camera lens sure spoke volumes. That “smirk” told a thousand tales just as Us Weekly sources revealed earlier this week that he had “strong suspicions” that Baumgartner and Connor were having an affair before his marriage ended. While those details haven’t been verified, the insider noted, “Their close [bond] was a real elephant in the room.”
Costner’s wariness about their friendship even came up during his divorce proceedings because Connor loaned Baumgartner $20,000 on the heels of their reportedly platonic trip to Hawaii in July. But a Daily Mail source seems to think a spark was ignited on that trip. “It’s hard to say if there was anything going on with them, but he did put his hand on her leg at one point that I saw,” the insider noted about their cozy vacation moment. “That was the only actual physical interaction.”
The former couple settled their divorce in September, but it does feel like there are lingering emotions about their breakup. And Baumgartner reportedly doesn’t think her ex has a right to have any reaction to her dating life since he’s moved on with Jewel. “Christine doesn’t think Kevin has anything to complain about,” the Us Weekly source pointed out. “Josh has been Christine’s rock throughout the divorce ordeal. If Kevin has a problem with that, that’s on him.”
