Kevin Costner on Monday shared on socials a first trailer for Horizon, the two-part Western epic that played a role in his growing frustrations with his Yellowstone experience.

Before the WGA strike began last May, Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan had completed scripts for the back half of the show’s fifth season that did not include Costner, whose alleged demands had been widely reported. Per the industry-insider newsletter Puck, Costner’s reps later expressed his desire to return for Season 5B and possibly more.

Sheridan was said to be willing to write Costner’s John Dutton back into 5B, until he got on the phone with Costner in July to hash it out. It was then, Puck claimed, that Costner detailed his demands for increased money, a reduced shooting schedule, and the right to review/approve/ potentially veto every script. That was a no-go for Sheridan, who pens every episode.

On the witness stand at a September child support hearing connected to his divorce from Christine Baumgartner, Costner said that he had every intention of returning for a sixth season of Yellowstone, but “they offered me less money than previous seasons,” People reported. Costner also noted that Horizon, which he directed and starred in, was a sticking point, as the decision to break Yellowstone‘s fifth season into two parts interfered with the film’s shooting schedule.

When Sheridan addressed Costner’s exit in June, he alluded to the actor/filmmaker’s commitment to Horizon, which will be released as two films on June 8 and August 16: “His movie seems to be a great priority to him, and he wants to shift focus. I sure hope [the movie is] worth it — and that it’s a good one.”

Horizon: An American Saga is described as “a multi-faceted chronicle covering the Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West. A story of Americana and patriotism too big for one film.

“In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, Horizon: An American Saga explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won — and lost — through the blood, sweat and tears of many,” the synopsis continues. “Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.”

The ensemble cast also includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Owen Crow Shoe, Tatanka Means, Ella Hunt, Tim Guinee, Danny Huston, Colin Cunningham, Scott Haze, Tom Payne, Abbey Lee, Michael Rooker, Will Patton, Georgia MacPhail, Douglas Smith, Luke Wilson, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jamie Campbell Bower, Alejandro Edda, Wasé Winyan Chief, Michael Anganaro, Angus Macfadyen, Jon Beavers, Alex Nibley, Kathleen Quinlan, Etienne Kellici, Amos Jason Charging Cloud, Bodhi Okuma Linton, Gregory Cruz, James Russo, Jeff Fahey, David O’Hara, Chris Conner, Leroy M.
