Kerry Washington's adorable dad hijacks 'Kimmel' monologue with dad jokes

Kerry Washington guest hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live! Monday night and, while the actress did a good job and looked absolutely stunning, it was actually her adorable father, Earl Washington, and his awesome dad jokes, who stole the show during the opening monologue.

Fans of Washington are already familiar with her funny father, as the actress has posted him on her Instagram in the past. In fact, about two weeks ago, Washington posted this hilarious video of her father accepting his (fake) Emmy nomination:

However, Monday’s Kimmel viewers got a special treat as Washington explained that when her dad heard she was doing her first late night monologue, he wanted to help pitch in with some funny material because, as Washington stated, "He doesn't think I'm funny."

Earl started off strong, saying, "This is awesome, and it's at a really strategic time. You know, we're in such turmoil with this plague and, so, any type of humor really, really works. And, you know, some of the stuff that I do, which are bad dad jokes, are really interesting. You know why? Because they sneak up on you. I mean, they really do. I mean, how do you know that it's a dad joke? It becomes apparent."

Earl continued with his next joke: "Why did the cookie take himself to the hospital? Because he felt crummy."

Washington then pointed out that, while her dad's jokes are great, traditionally, the opening monologue of a late night talk show revolves around current events or politics. Good thing Earl had a joke up his sleeve for that too.

"What's the most progressive body of water? A.O.C," said Earl. Get it? A.O.Sea! Hilarious!

Even though Earl wasn't so smooth with all his dad jokes Monday, like his last joke of the night — "How do vegans vote?" — in which he accidentally delivered the punch line as "election kale," instead of "vote by kale," Earl and his dad jokes were still incredibly endearing.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on ABC.
