Usually on this “Old Baseball Cards” show of ours, guys grin and reminiscence about their old teammates. In this week’s episode, with Cleveland Indians great Kenny Lofton, he wants nothing to do with a Carlos Baerga card.
It’s all part of a fun new episode of “Old Baseball Cards,” our baseball card-driven walk down memory lane, in which Lofton talks about the great Tony Gwynn, Hall of Famer Harold Baines, Chuck Knoblauch and one pitcher he ate up for “lunch, dinner and breakfast.”
But it’s the appearance of Baerga that brings the most fun. We should point out that it seems mostly in jest. The two often make appearances together — don’t miss Lofton doing an impression of Baegra running the bases, it’s funny. They threw out the first pitch together at the 2016 World Series too.
Lofton joined us on behalf of the Still Got Game Foundation, a recently formed non-profit in which ex-pro athletes have come together to give back and promote social change. Lofton, along with Torii Hunter, LaTroy Hawkins and Ken Griffey Jr., are among the group’s board members. In fact, on this night, we were at a charity poker tournament hosted by Lofton and Baerga was one of the special guests.
