Kendrick Lamar showed Compton Christmas cheer during its annual toy drive. On Saturday (Dec. 16), K. Dot pulled up to his city to support the Christmas In Compton Toy Giveaway. Kendrick was spotted wearing a humble outfit: a white tee, blue jeans, and a lived-in pair of Adidas Sambas.

The Enterprise Park event saw locals embrace their hometown hero and take photos cheesing with the emcee. Additional pictures show the lauded artist chopping it up with community activists, barbers, and folks giving back.

Other music industry figures supported the community efforts as well. Names like Interscope Records co-founder Jimmy Iovine, Dairold, owner of 319 Music Group, and West Coast rapper Jay Worthy could be seen hitting the holiday event. Worthy showed love to the people attending the event in an Instagram post. He also thanked K. Dot and pgLang for attending the giveaway.

“WHO ELSE HOOD YOU KNOW GOT JIMMY IOVINE PULLING UP TO THEY PARK?” he typed. “WESTSIDE THE MOST INFLUENTIAL HOOD IN AMERICA THATS WHO ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL TOY DRIVE IN THE CITY OF COMPTON S/O MY BROTHERS @kendricklamar @im_luxxkjr @forevachad@pglang AND EVERYBODY ELSE INVOLVED THIS DEEPER THAN RAP THIS FAMILY.”

Speaking of family, Lamar recently spoke about his love for Compton in a recent Q&A. The DAMN rapper opened up during a conversation about his film Live from Paris: The Big Steppers Tour. He explained why it was important for a kid from Compton to film a documentary in Paris.

“Nah, like Dave [Free] said, that sh*t hold a special place for us because me and boy was thuggin,’ we was on a little boat or something shooting ‘Backseat Freestyle’ and the ‘God Is Gangsta’ video,” he explained. “We was thuggin’ around that muthaf**ka like 2012, 2014. That was like a second home, just shooting sh*t, just getting material. So to go back and shoot on the anniversary of good kid, that’s special.”

As he continued, he admitted that he added extra juice to the performance for his hometown. He said he knew his city would be watching and, as a result, confessed he was “shaking a**” more than usual.

“The difference for me was, I was shaking major a**, man. I ain’t never shaken that much a**, bro! But at the same time, it’s freeing, though, ’cause that’s who I am,” he added.
