Kenan Thompson's daughters have attended events with their dad

Kenan Thompson may be best known for his long career on Saturday Night Live, but he’s also passionate about being a father to his two daughters: Georgia and Gianna.

The comedian married model Christina Evangeline in 2011 and welcomed Georgia three years later. In 2018, Gianna joined the family. In 2022, the couple announced their separation and filed for divorce, which included an even split of custody.

Thompson has opened up about the joys of parenting his two daughters. “One day you're not a dad and then the next moment you are. You're just a dad from that point on,” he shared with PEOPLE in 2020. “I've definitely grown and matured in ways that I never imagined."

The Good Burger actor added, "And then there were ways that I did imagine that come through, like dropping my kids off at school and what that experience was like, and having things come full circle like that — like watching a big girl do her homework. It's just been amazing."

Georgia Marie Thompson, 9

Thompson and Evangeline welcomed their daughter Georgia Marie Thompson on June 20, 2014. The new mom posted a sweet photo of Georgia sleeping on her chest shortly after, with the caption, “we’re just really sleepy.”

The SNL star has opened up about his long-running desire to be a father. “We were married for three years before we had a baby, but it was always in our mind. So it was always that plan," he told PEOPLE in 2020.

It seems Georgia may have even inherited her dad's penchant for comedy. “She makes us laugh, really,” Thompson told PEOPLE in 2018. “She’s the funny one. I try to make them laugh but I think they’ve heard enough from me, just from watching the show.”

In 2022, Thompson echoed the same sentiment in an interview with Today. “Georgia is always telling little misdirection jokes," he said. "Very witty, very intuitive and that's her little mischief for the day.”

In the same interview, he talked about watching Georgia (who was 4½ at the time) as she hit new milestones, like riding a bike. “You just sit there and watch your magic living its life and it’s unbelievable. Home life is a beautiful thing," Thompson said.

These days, Georgia is a big fan of America’s Got Talent. In 2020, she joined her dad on set while he was filling in for judge Simon Cowell. Evangeline posted a few adorable photos of her daughter on the show along with a sweet message.

"I didn’t even know that this was happening until texts started coming in 🥴 but Georgia’s the best with it," the mom of two wrote. "'Mommy, did you see me steal the show?' Always, Girl."

Thompson has also made a few sweet posts in honor of Georgia’s birthdays over the years. In 2019, he posted a series of images of his older daughter and in the caption he wrote, “It’s a joy to watch you grow little one!! I love you beyond comprehension!!”

Georgia is also no stranger to the red carpet. In August 2022, she struck a pose along with her younger sister and her father, who was being honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The two girls wore matching pink dresses.

Gianna Michelle Thompson, 5

Thompson and Evangeline welcomed their second child, Gianna Michelle Thompson, on July 31, 2018. The mom of two posted a few images and short clips of Gianna and Georgia on Instagram a couple of weeks later, along with the caption, “have you given thanks for your blessings today?”

Thompson told PEOPLE about the changes in their home as they went from a unit of three to a family of four. He said that having a second child "kicked [things] into overdrive," and added, "I'm so thankful they weren't in diapers at the same time."

He also spoke about Georgia’s new role as a big sister to Gianna. "It helps to have an older sister to run around and teach her those things 24/7 that we can't necessarily communicate the same kind of way," the Emmy winner said. "[Gianna will] just pick things up watching her sister, basically — how to walk up and down the stairs."

As with her older sister, Thompson has been sure to celebrate some of Gianna’s milestones on social media. In 2020, he posted in honor of her 2nd birthday, writing, “It’s goin way too fast but I cannot tell you how proud I am of you sweetheart!!!”

Gianna is also a big fan of her dad’s work on Trolls World Tour and Trolls Band Together, in which he voiced the character Tiny Diamond.

“They’re really happy about the whole Tiny Diamond thing,” Thompson shared with Today. “My little one was catching on to it as well. She enjoys the character and everything inside of this musical. But I think she’s starting to enjoy the fact that it’s me as well. So that’s nice. That’s exciting."

In the same interview, he spoke about Gianna's next big milestone. “She’s going to pre-K so it’s always tough when they leave the nest the first time,” he said. “You just feel so lost. And this will be the first time they're both gone so it's like, 'oh, wow, it’s really quiet.' "

The Hubie Halloween actor also shared how his younger daughter makes him laugh. “Gianna is just a wild girl. She's so tiny and just watching a tiny person run their hardest with their little, tiny arms and legs is adorable," Thompson said.
