Ken Jeong Celebrates Popeyes Chicken Wings (and Modern Technology) in 2024 Super Bowl Commercial

Ken Jeong gets a taste of the future after being frozen for 52 years in the fast food restaurant's Super Bowl commercial

Ken Jeong is enjoying Popeyes chicken wings, electric scooters, doodle dog breeds and other modern joys in the fast food restaurant’s Super Bowl commercial.

The big game ad, focused around the chain's new wings, sees Jeong play a man who was frozen in 1972 and brought into current day inside a science lab.

“You’re unfreezing me! That means — ” says an icicle-covered Jeong. “Yes. There’s a better chicken wing: Popeyes',” a scientist answers.

“The sailor man?” The Masked Singer star gasps.

“No, the chicken place,” the scientist responds bluntly.

Upon taking a bite of the chicken wing, a giddy Jeong starts to cry tears of joy. “Crispy, juicy. What else have we done?” he asks.

“I mean, man,” the scientist says. “There’s a lot that’s been going on.”

A sequence of clips shows Jeong discovering all that the world has to offer since he was frozen 52 years ago, like Crocs shoes and massage chairs. He has more success with some modern things than others. His first step onto an electric scooter results in chicken wings (and his butt) on the ground. Plus, a robot vacuum cleaner leaves him cowering in the corner of his living room.

But he finds out the pleasures of modern society and ways to happily integrate Popeyes chicken wings into the innovations.

“Two dogs in one? Impossible!” he shouts gleefully while balancing a tray of wings and a labradoodle on his lap.

“A pack? For your fanny? Genius!” he says while dipping wings in a cup of ranch in his belt bag.

“Come to papa!” he shouts while beckoning dozens of drones holding Popeyes packages.

Text reads at the end of the commercial: “The wait is over! Popeyes finally has wings.”

And not just one type of wings, but five. The chain is launching five different flavors as permanent menu additions: ghost pepper, sweet n’ spicy, honey BBQ wings, roasted garlic parmesan and signature hot.

In August, the fast food chicken chain launched sweet ‘n spicy wings to select locations. Within two weeks of the launch, the new wings became Popeyes's most popular, best-selling menu item since the launch of the chicken sandwich in 2019, according to the brand.

The Popeyes Super Bowl commercial is set to air during the Super Bowl on Feb 11. The Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers will face off in Super Bowl LVIII, airing on CBS at 6:30 p.m. ET.
