There’s a television star in town, and the reason is a show happening at Century II this weekend. Kelsey Grammer of “Frasier” fame will narrate and perform in the famous operetta “Candide” this weekend with Wichita Grand Opera, and tickets are still available

Lots of other activities are happening during the final weekend of April in and around Wichita, too, including a gem show, a country concert and a performance by one of the contestants on the most recent season of “The Voice.”

Kelsey Grammer in ‘Candide’

7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Century II Concert Hall, 225 W. Douglas

“Frasier” and “Cheers” star Kelsy Grammer is in town for a Wichita Grand Opera performance of the operetta “Candide,” which happens Saturday and Sunday at Century II’s Concert Hall. Grammar, a five-time Emmy winner, will narrate the piece, whose authors include Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim, and will also portray Dr. Pangloss. Shiny gems

9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Cessna Activity Center, 2744 George Washington Blvd.

The Wichita Gem and Mineral Society is putting on its 70th annual Wichita Gem and Mineral Show from Friday through Sunday at Cessna Activity Center. The event allows visitors to see and shop for crystals, beads, gemstones, polished stones, meteorites and fossils from around the world. The show also will feature children’s activities. Admission is $5 for adults, $1 for ages 12 to 17, free for ages 11 and under with an adult.

Woods, Wind and Willows

4 p.m. Sunday, Bartlett Arboretum, 301 N. Line St, Belle Plaine

Bartlett Arboretum will be home this weekend to a concert called Woods, Wind and Willows, and it will feature a performance of Aaron Copland’s “Appalachian Spring” featuring 15 musicians from the Wichita Symphony Orchestra along with faculty from Wichita State University. The concert also will include a performance of Sergei Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf,” which younger visitors will enjoy. The gates open at 3 p.m., and the music starts at 4 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the gate, free for children. Lyon’s Den BBQ will be selling food on site or people can pack their own picnics. Attendees also should bring lawn chairs.

Contemporary dance

7 p.m. Friday-Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday, Wilner Auditorium, Wichita State University

The Wichita Contemporary Dance Theatre at Wichita State University will feature new works by WSU faculty and by guest artist Darrell Grand Moultrie, a Juilliard graduate and choreographer at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. The show, directed by Mina Estrada, happens at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wilner Auditorium. Tickets are $20, $18 and $12 at wichita.edu/fineartsboxoffice or by phone at 316-978-3233. WSU students can get a free ticket in advance at the Fine Arts Box Office in Duerksen Fine Arts Center during operating hours.

Terri Clark in concert

8 p.m. Friday, Crown Uptown Theatre, 3207 E. Douglas

Canadian country star Terri Clark will be in Wichita on Friday performing a show at the Crown Uptown Theatre. Clark, the only Canadian member of the Grand Ole Opry, is known for hits like “Poor Pitiful Me” and “Better Things To Do.” Her opening act is singer/songwriter Jake Matthew. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m. The limited remaining tickets are $56.50 at www.ticketmaster.com

‘The Voice’ singer at Brickyard

9 p.m. Friday, Brickyard, 129 N. Rock ISland

AJ Harvey, a Wichita native who recently appeared as an early contestant on NBC’s “The Voice,” will perform at Brickyard this weekend with musician Molly Neeley. Harvey also appeared in the Oscar-winning movie “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Neeley will open the show at 9 p.m. Doors open at 8 p.m. Admission is $10.

Picnic for the planet at Botanica

9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Botanica, 710 Amidon

Botanica will throw a belated Earth Day celebration from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The venue’s Picnic for the Planet will feature activities designed to teach visitors about keeping the planet healthy. The event will also include a Pollinator Plant Sale, and the first 200 people will get a free plant. People can eat at Botanica’s concession stands or pack a picnic. During the event, everyone will be able to get in for $8, which is the kids admission price. Ages 2 and under get in free.
