Kelly Rowland went viral for her appearance at the Cannes Film Festival on May 21—not for her stunning strapless red chiffon gown custom made by Anamika Khanna, but rather due to an unfortunate exchange with a member of security who treated her unfairly as she walked the red carpet for Marcello Mio.

ICYMI, the former Destiny's Child member dazzled on the red carpet for the movie premiere, but before she could finish posing for photos on the stairs, a woman hurried to rush her into the venue before two other security guards placed their hands on her, even briefly stepping on her dress. In video from the tense exchange, Rowland points a finger and is reportedly seen telling the guards "Don't talk to me like that," while her handler steps in and pushes the guards away.

On Thursday, Rowland spoke about the encounter in a new interview with Associated Press, simply explaining to the outlet: "The woman knows what happened. I know what happened...and I have a boundary, and I stand by those boundaries. And that is it."

The singer further alleged that discrimination and anti-blackness may be to blame for the way she was treated on the Cannes red carpet, adding, "There were other women that attended that carpet who did not quite look like me, and they didn't get scolded or pushed off or told to get off. I stood my ground, and she felt like she had to stand hers."

Despite the incident, Rowland kept the festivities going at Cannes, attending the premiere of Le Comte De Monte-Cristo on May 22 and the 2024 amFAR Gala on May 23.
