Kelly Rowland Addresses Cannes Film Festival Incident With “Aggressive” Security Guard

Kelly Rowland has addressed the now-viral footage of her having a verbal altercation with an “aggressive” security guard on the 2024 Cannes Film Festival red carpet this week.

In an interview with AP Entertainment, the R&B singer and actress explained that the incident came about when the guard violated her boundaries. Rowland also claimed that the guard only treated her with aggression in comparison to other actresses who “did not look like her.”

“The woman knows what happened. I know what happened. And, I have a boundary, and I stand by those boundaries, and that is it,” the 43-year-old said. “And there were other women that attended that carpet who did not quite look like me, and they didn’t get scolded, or pushed off or told to get off.”

She added, “I stood my ground and she felt like she had to stand hers but I stood my ground and that was it.” See below.

While walking the red carpet on Tuesday (May 21), the “Motivation” songstress found herself having to step out of character.

According to Daily Mail, Rowland attended the event in support the French film Marcello Mio and instead of having all of the attention on her stunning look, eyes were drawn to her verbal spat with staff.

In viral footage, the former Destiny’s Child member could be seen raising her finger to a woman dressed in a suit.

Per the outlet, security was assigned to assist stars on the red carpet, but apparently lacked patience and respect.

An insider claimed that Rowland “tried to ignore it” but “had enough” when she came into contact with another militant guard. In a clip the Houston-native can be seen saying, “Don’t talk to me like that. Do not talk to me like that, you are not my mother.”

“By the time she got to the last woman, she had had it because she scolded Kelly and told her to move when she was trying to wave to fans and help the paparazzi get their shot,” a source claimed, per DM.

The insider also added of Rowland, “She doesn’t care if she comes across like a diva if she knows that she is advocating for herself. She isn’t fake and wanted to set a clear boundary.”

Rowland donned a draping, strapless, red gown that swept the floor and showed off her toned arms and décolletage. The wife and mother-of-two paired her look with a staple silver choker and matching shoes. She also sported her hair in a short ash-blonde bob with a rosey, shimmering makeup look.
