Kelly Ripa & Mark Consuelos Reveal the One Thing That’s 'Off-Limits' During Their Show

For almost six months now, Mark Consuelos has become the official co-host of Live alongside his wife, Kelly Ripa. And although not everyone was on board with their dynamic at first, the couple’s natural chemistry and openness onscreen quickly won over the public.

And, between childhood stories and candid confessions about their sex life, viewers began wondering: is there anything they’re not willing to share? When we asked the two that question at Paley Center for Media’s PaleyFest on Oct 11, Consuelos emphatically told us, “Sure!”

Ripa, on the other hand, had the opposite reaction. “I was about to say ‘no!'” she said. According to the Riverdale alum, he and Ripa still keep some topics outside of Live for them to divulge “over brunch or lunch.” Without getting into much detail, he said, “We still share what one would share at one of those things.”

Ripa then continued, adding that the two are also “good secret-keepers” for their friends. “A lot of the times we’ll be out and somebody will say, ‘You’re not going to talk about this tomorrow are you?’ and we already know that some things you don’t [say],” she explained. “You don’t betray [the] trust of others.”

Also at the event, the two dished on why they think their connection off-screen translates onscreen so well. “I think when you have two people who are comfortable in their own skin and comfortable around each other, it automatically makes the audience comfortable in-house and at home,” Ripa told reporters on the carpet. “People don’t want to be alarmed at that hour, they want to be comforted and that’s kind of our thing.”

As for something they’re not so good at, the two opened up about their most recent parenting fail with their 22-year-old daughter Lola Consuelos. “Our daughter came to visit us at work yesterday and she said ‘Please don’t show me on the camera’ and within two minutes we showed her on camera,” Consuelos remembered.

“We didn’t mean to show her on camera, we started talking to her and the camera panned to her so it wasn’t really our fault,” Ripa added, totally defending themselves from the moment. “It was our fault,” Consuelos said, jokingly admitting defeat.

As for a parenting win, the parents of three (Lola, 20-year-old Joaquin and 26-year-old Michael) said that becoming empty-nesters has brought some positives as well. “Our kids like to hang out with us now they’re in their twenties,” Consuelos said. Talk about a major win!
