Kelly Clarkson has weathered through so much in the almost four years since she announced her divorce from Brandon Blackstock. While their personal details have been settled, they are still working their way through the issues from their business relationship — and things are messy.

However, the 41-year-old talk show host has a new attitude when it comes to her latest legal battle with Blackstock, she’s ready to fight. “While Kelly has moved on emotionally from Brandon, she has no problem being tied up with him in court if it concerns her business and career,” an insider told Life & Style. Clarkson is leaving the battle for the courtroom only, though, and making sure she keeps any negative thoughts to herself and away from their kids, River, 9, and Remington, 8.

“She doesn’t disparage him in front of the kids, and she’s cordial and civil, but when it comes to the law and her money, she won’t be bulldozed,” they added. Currently, Clarkson and Blackstock’s legal battle involves the commissions he took as her manager at Starstruck Management which skirted California laws, per the state’s labor commissioner. He acted as her “unlicensed talent agent” to procure her jobs on The Voice, Wayfair, Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL), and the Billboard Music Awards.

Clarkson believes she’s owed even more money than the $2.6 million Blackstock was ordered to pay by the California labor commissioner. She’s filed a suit asking for a full accounting of Starstruck Management going back to 2007. As for her ex-husband, he’s denied “each and every allegation,” per People, in his response, but it’s clear there is no love lost here. “Their marriage was full of twisted lies,” the source pointed out to Life & Style. “She just wants what’s hers.”

The former Voice judge wants people to understand that “filing this lawsuit against Brandon had nothing to do with her alimony payments,” an Us Weekly insider said in March. “It’s about fighting for what she feels is right and owed to her.” It’s a sign that Clarkson’s new chapter has begun and she “won’t be taken advantage of” any longer.
