Kelly Clarkson visited The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Sunday night, where she talked about the recent advice she gave Taylor Swift. In June, Swift’s back catalog for all 6 of her multiplatinum albums was purchased by famed music manager Scooter Braun, and Swift was not happy about it. At the time, Swift posted a message on Tumblr about how Braun bullied her out of owning her own back catalog. In response, Clarkson tweeted, “Just a thought, U should go in & re-record all the songs that U don’t own the masters on exactly how U did them but put brand new art & some kind of incentive so fans will no longer buy the old versions. I’d buy all of the new versions just to prove a point.” While on The Tonight Show, Clarkson revealed she actually got the advice from her mother-in-law, Reba McEntire. McEntire re-recorded and released all of her original songs in order to take ownership of the catalog. Taylor thought Kelly’s Reba-inspired advice was pretty good and last month told CBS News she plans to re-record her albums.
