Blake Shelton announced that Kelly Clarkson will be a coach on season 14 of The Voice via Facebook Live on Thursday (May 11). “This person is a very near and dear friend of mine, this person is somebody that I consider to be family and this person is extremely talented …We have felt as a family at The Voice that this person would fit in perfectly,” Shelton said before introducing Clarkson.

The announcement came the day after NBC announced that another American Idol alum, Jennifer Hudson, would be a coach on season 13 of the show, alongside Miley Cyrus, Shelton and Adam Levine.

Clarkson appeared in the Facebook Live video and said her pregnancies have kept her from participating in the show earlier. “I’ve been excited about this for a few years now — the timing hasn’t been right,” Clarkson said.

She then showed off her many musical accolades, including a CMA Award for musical event of the year, and said she’s excited to win when she joins in spring 2018. “I can’t wait to beat you — it’s going to be so glorious,” Clarkson joked before the two signed off.
