Kelly Clarkson Jokes About Dealing with Her Daughter's Terrible Twos: 'She's a Terrorist'

Kelly Clarkson is getting used to being a mother of four.

The singer, 34, has been promoting her children’s book, River Rose and the Magical Lullaby, and spoke with Ellen DeGeneres about her somewhat treacherous toddler.

“She’s a terrorist,” Clarkson, who shares 2-year-old River Rose and 5-month-old Remington “Remy” Alexander with husband Brandon Blackstock, jokes in the interview. “She’s so bossy. She can be the most loveable human and then just … mean.”

DeGeneres, 58, got a glimpse of River’s sassy personality when she chatted with the toddler backstage. “I said, ‘Are you River? I’m Ellen’ and she goes, ‘Sit,’ ” DeGeneres says.

“Like you’re a dog,” Clarkson quips.

Clarkson also mentions her 2-year-old’s not-so-age-appropriate obsession. “She went from Finding Nemo to Jurassic Park,” she says. “I know, judge me. It’s fine.”

Clarkson’s daughter took a liking to dinosaurs after seeing them in exhibits at museums, and when Clarkson’s sister was playing the movie, River couldn’t look away.

“I was like, ‘This is too old … So I’ll just play it real quick and she’ll be like, ‘No!’ ” she remembers hoping. “Seen all of ’em. She loves ’em. When people are being attacked, she literally laughs and is like ‘Ahhh!’ I don’t know what that says about her here [pointing to her heart] … or here [pointing to her head].”

After sharing some of her daughter’s latest moments, Clarkson realizes the crowd might be judgmental of her parenting style.

“I’m a good mother,” she says, laughing. “It’s just, she loves [the movies] and she’s not scared. I think we teach them fear. She doesn’t know to be scared. She thinks they’re playing.”

As for playing with her new baby brother? Clarkson says River is having a difficult time sharing the attention.

“She doesn’t like that,” she says about the times Clarkson is holding her son. “She is so jealous of that moment, but she loves him. She loves feeding him and she loves — I’m such a mom, I’m so boring.”

On the TODAY show Tuesday morning, Clarkson continued to talk about motherhood, and how much her life has changed.

“I’ve never felt more confident or more like a woman,” she told Savannah Guthrie, “Because the amount of things that I accomplish in a day — I’m gonna say it — it’s astonishing … We do everything, though. I feel like moms, we’re just amazing humans. I literally tell my mom all the time, ‘I’m sorry,’ because I just didn’t respect that enough … It’s a hard job.”

And while she has enjoyed raising her babies — and her husband‘s kids from a previous relationship — Clarkson says she is satisfied with the size of her family.

“Yeah,” she tells DeGeneres, when asked about if she’d have any more, before correcting herself.

“No, not kids. I thought you meant books! Ah! My husband full on just had a heart attack. No. We have four because I married into two. So we have a 15-, 9-, 2[-year-old] and 5-month-old … I already have days where I cry, so we don’t need any more kids. It’s a lot.”
