Kelly Clarkson Encourages Lindsay Lohan to Revive Her Music Career — but She's Not Sure

Lohan's last album 'A Little More Personal (Raw)' came out in 2005, though she covered "Jingle Bell Rock" for her 2022 Netflix film 'Falling for Christmas'

Many fans of Lindsay Lohan would love to see her return to music — and one of them is Kelly Clarkson!

During an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show alongside Ayesha Curry this week to promote their new Netflix film Irish Wish, Clarkson asked Lohan if she'd ever make more music.

"Uh, I don’t know," said the Mean Girls actress, 37, with a laugh.

Clarkson, 41, whose second album Breakaway came out in 2004, the same year Lohan released her debut album Speak, responded with encouragement. "I feel like we were at the same time in a certain part of our career, so I was like, ‘Oh man… I wonder if she’s gonna come out with more music.’ Anyway, you should," said the American Idol alum.

"Thank you. Appreciate that," said Lohan, who later added of her sister Aliana, "But my sister’s singing, so I’m supporting her right now."

After rising to fame with films including The Parent Trap and Life-Size, Lindsay officially launched her music career in 2004 with "Rumors," the lead single off Speak. The song went gold in the United States and earned an MTV Video Music Award nomination, while the album hit No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and sold over a million units stateside.

She released a follow-up album in 2005, A Little More Personal (Raw), which spawned a Billboard Hot 100 hit single with the vulnerable ballad "Confessions of a Broken Heart (Daughter to Father)."

Three years later, Lindsay released a one-off single called "Bossy" before largely retreating from music, only to make brief returns with two more standalone songs: "Back to Me" in 2020 and a cover of "Jingle Bell Rock" for her 2022 Netflix film Falling for Christmas.

Throughout the Irish Wish press cycle, she's spoken multiple times about the idea of returning to music and recently gave Entertainment Tonight a slightly more optimistic answer: "We'll see. You never know."

"I think if I did, it would be doing a song with my sister, ‘cause that’s the path she’s on, and I want to support that," said Lindsay of Aliana, 30, who released the single "Without You" in 2022 and covered "Jingle Bells" for the Falling for Christmas soundtrack. "So, I think maybe we could do something together, and that’s where it would happen."

Elsewhere in the ET interview, Lindsay reacted to learning the 20th anniversary of "Rumors" and its music video are approaching in September. "No way," she said. "That's wild."

Looking back on the song's video, which sees the Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen star attempt to hide from the paparazzi during a night out on the town, she told the outlet, "God, I was a baby."
