The actress, 43, who plays the role of NYPD Detective Amanda Rollins on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, exclusively opened up to PEOPLE at the show's 25th-anniversary celebration on Tuesday evening about balancing work and family life.

“My husband is like, 'I'm thinking it might be a record that one actress has had three babies on one show,' ” she tells PEOPLE. "Is that a record, by the way?"

Giddish also says that she support she received from the TV crew as she welcomed her babies was “amazing.”

“The love and support that I felt weighing 180 pounds on a national TV show on network TV,” she says.

Meanwhile, at Tuesday evening's event, which was held at N.Y.C.'s The Edge, the mother of three also revealed why she thinks Law & Order: SVU has been able to last for 25 seasons.

“I think the subject matter is hard for us to talk about,” she tells PEOPLE. “But we present it in a way that has a beginning, a middle and an end, so there's some kind of ending [and] that gives the audience some kind of resolve and some kind of relief I think.”

She adds that running into fans is the most "rewarding" part of starring on the show.

“[It's] the interactions I have at the coffee shop where somebody will just come up and say thank you - that means the world. It’s amazing.”

The star also says that she’s always appreciative when a fan recognizes her in public. "I'm like, ‘Yes, that is me,' " she says.

Rollins — who left SVU in 2022 after 12 seasons but is now back as a guest star — also reveals the motivation behind her decision to return to the set.

"It's the fans and it gives me so much joy to come back and to be with a family for a little bit longer. It's really fun. I get to step in the shoes of Rollins again," she says.
