Still no plans for Halloween weekend, but you have the coolest witch hat on your block? Pop it on, grab your best broom and fly to Kellar's Magic and Comedy Club, 1402 State St.

Both Friday and Saturday, the club is celebrating National Magic Week, which runs from Oct. 25 to 31 with shows by club owner Bobby Borgia headlining after opening act Erik Tait.

"I haven't done a show here in 12 years," Borgia said, adding that he's performed at the Warner Theatre, the Erie Playhouse and Mercyhurst University. But this show is nothing like what he's done there, he said.

"The show is an interactive magic show in live TV format," Borgia said. "We're bringing in 16 plasma screens, three large LED screens, live camera, lighting. The show is designed to happen to the entire audience at the same time."

That will follow the show by Tait, who recently took the bronze medal in card tricks at the worldwide "Olympics of Magic," Borgia said. The competition takes place every four years, put on by FISM, a French acronym for the International Federation of Magic Societies.

"He's the first American to win bronze in the (competition)," Borgia said. "To have him opening for me, I don't know what to say ― he's an amazing guy. We've been friends for years."

Tait will also perform during Saturday night's Witches Ball, put on by Cauldron & Thorne, a magic and occult gift shop at 2724 W. Eighth St. The ball takes place after Borgia's routine, from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Dressing the part is highly encouraged at both the comedy show and the ball.

"(The ball) will have Erik Tait performing, DJs, lasers and food," Borgia said. "The theme is the Wild Hunt."

Borgia said National Magic Week grew out of National Magic Day, which was originally set on Oct. 31 because that's the day that the great escape artist Harry Houdini died. Houdini was the mentor to another famous magician Harry Kellar, the man for whom Borgia named his club. Kellar was born and raised in Erie.

Borgia said his show isn't just a spectacle, but also an attempt to connect the audience members to each other.

"The idea is for everyone to connect together. It'll be different and unique," he said. "We need a little positivity in this world."
