We can’t wait to have her host the Soul Train Awards house party,” Connie Orlando, EVP Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy said in a press release.

As always, expect our star-studded slate of soulful artists and can’t-miss moments to illuminate your screens for a night dedicated to soul music.”

Palmer's hosting gig announcement comes a week after she filed a domestic violence restraining order against ex Darius Jackson and was granted temporary sole custody of their 8-month-old son Leodis, with no visitation rights for Jackson.

Days later, a source told PEOPLE that Palmer "did what she had to do," despite having worked "hard to have an amicable split."

"She gave him a lot of chances to do the right thing," they add. "Keke tried so hard to have an amicable split and arrangement [custody]."

"She needed to prioritize her safety and the safety of her baby," the source continued. "She wants the best for Leo. She did not want it to get to this point. But she did what she had to do."

Palmer and her ex-boyfriend, who welcomed their son in February, have gone through public difficulties in their relationship in recent months, most notably when Jackson publicly criticized the actress in July for wearing a fitted, black bodysuit under a sheer dress when she watched Usher perform at his Las Vegas Residency.
