Keira Knightley to Star in Movie Adaptation of “The Woman in Cabin 10” Novel by Ruth Ware

The film version of the 2017 thriller novel will be directed by Simon Stone

Keira Knightley is setting sail on a twisty new mystery.

The Pirates of the Caribbean alum, 39, is set to star in the movie adaptation of the 2017 bestselling novel The Woman in Cabin 10 by author Ruth Ware, Netflix announced May 15.

The film will be directed by Simon Stone, who made the 2021 film The Dig starring Carey Mulligan.

Woman in Cabin 10 is a "claustrophobic" thriller with "surprising twists" and "spine-tingling turns," according to a synopsis from its publisher Simon & Schuster. The story follows travel writer Lo Blacklock as she gets a new dream assignment: one week aboard a highly exclusive luxury cruise called the Aurora.

"At first, Lo’s stay is nothing but pleasant: the cabins are plush, the dinner parties are sparkling, and the guests are elegant," teases the book's synopsis.

But "Lo witnesses what she can only describe as a dark and terrifying nightmare: a woman being thrown overboard. The problem? All passengers remain accounted for — and so, the ship sails on as if nothing has happened, despite Lo’s desperate attempts to convey that something (or someone) has gone terribly, terribly wrong."

A different attempt at a movie adaptation of Woman in Cabin 10 had been previously announced back in 2017.

Ware is known for other books like The Lying Game, One Perfect Couple and In a Dark, Dark Wood. Oscar nominee Knightley last appeared on screen in the 2023 true-crime movie Boston Strangler with Carrie Coon.
