The Georgia Department of Public Health, Environmental Health Section, conducts regular restaurant inspections to help keep residents and visitors safe.

The following is a list of restaurants in Richmond and Columbia counties that have been inspected between Oct. 31 and Nov. 6, accompanied by their scores and, in some cases, the health infractions that lowered those scores.

Disclaimer: On any given day, an establishment may have fewer or more violations than noted in their most recent inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term conditions at the establishment. A few more recent, follow-up inspections may not be included here.

Perfect scores

Here are restaurants in Richmond and Columbia counties that passed recent food-service inspections between Oct. 31 and Nov. 6 with scores of 100, without a single health violation:

Inspector's comments: "Observed utensils used for time/temperature control for safety foods improperly stored. Ensure all in-use utensils are properly stored."

"Observed wet nesting of clean dishes. Allow dishes to properly air dry before stacking."

Pho Viet, 3031 Washington Rd.

Inspector's comments: "Observed scoop stored in flour container. Store scoop outside of food product itself."

"Observed wet nesting of stacked bowls. Allow dishes to properly air dry prior to stacking."

Inspector's comments: "Observed dirt on inside of ice machine. Increase frequency of cleaning of ice machine."

Here are restaurants in Richmond and Columbia counties that posted the lowest recent food-service inspections between Oct. 31 and Nov. 6, followed by their scores and, where available, inspectors’ comments. Scores of 70 and below are considered failing:

John Deere 4000, 700 Horizon South Pkwy., Grovetown: 84

Inspector's comments: "Observed the upright refrigerator to holding temps too high. The dial reads 48 and internal temp of foods tested were: tarter sauce 50 degrees F and salsa 46 degrees F. Only uncut fruits and vegetables may be stored in the refrigerator, move everything else or discard if it has been in there longer than four hours. Have refrigerator serviced."

"Observed the chicken in hot holding to be 118 degrees F and 98 degrees F using probe. Hot holding temps must be at 135 degrees F or above. If using time for public health control, must have procedures established and documented. If no procedures, keep hot food hot."

"Observed foods with no date marking. Prepared foods held longer than 24 hours need date marking. Food that were left in the fridge without date marking were discarded."

"Observed daylight.There is still a gap on both sides of the rear door. Gaps must be eliminated to prevent pest entry."

Hampton Inn Gordon Highway, 2171 Gordon Hwy.: 84

Inspector's comments: "All employees must have employee illness reporting sheets signed and on file."

"Time/temperature control for safety foods (cream cheese, 2% milk, butter) must be held at 41F and below (items discarded) or use time as food safety control and discard at end of service period or at end of four-hour maximum held time (must have written procedure for this)."

"Observed establishment utilizing time as a public health control without having written procedures."

"Post most recent inspection, permit."

"Coolers must be mounted on six inch legs or on wheels (easily moved) to allow easy cleaning of floor."
