Keep Austin lit: Austin's holiday light displays make it the most festive city in the U.S.

With the year's most prominent holidays quickly approaching, one thing is certain: there's no shortage of holiday cheer in Austin.

For the second year in a row, Austin ranked first in a list of the most festive cities in the U.S., according to Thumbtack, a home improvement platform.

Thumbtack used customer request data for holiday light installations to inform its list, according to a news release from the platform. The most common areas homeowners wanted to hang lights are along roofs, in front yards and wrapped around trees on their properties.

Where to see the best holiday lights displays across Central Texas

Like all things in Texas, the holiday lights displays will be big this year across Austin and the state.

The Austin Trail of Lights is considered by some to be the longest-running holiday tradition of its kind in Austin. It features more than 2 million lights, 90 lighted holiday trees and over 70 holiday displays. The event is expected to open from Dec. 8-23. Tickets start at $8 for general admission and free for kids 12 and under. However, there are dates when admission will be free for seven of the 14 nights.

Mozart's Coffee Roasters' annual holiday light show is also a fan-favorite, featuring hundreds of thousands of colored lights placed all around the coffee shop that are synced to holiday music. A dance floor used by pop juggernaut Taylor Swift during her recent Eras Tour performances will also be available for guests to dance on.

The event is scheduled to run Thursday through Jan. 6. Reservations are required and start at $40 for a four-person table and $60 for six people. Silent disco tickets are $21.35.

Texas cities dominate holiday festivities list

Austin is not the lone Texas city atop the list, not by a long shot. Four of the top five cities on the list are in Texas, though no Texas cities are featured in the 6–20 spots.

Dallas-Fort Worth took second on the list just as it did last year. Houston moved up to third, and San Antonio improved to fifth. Seattle claimed the forth spot, according to Thumbtack.
