Kebabs and custard: What's new in Springfield's food scene this week

This week in the Springfield-area restaurant realm: kebabs are coming soon to Springfield and Bolivar gets a Freddy's.

MacCheesy's owners to open new restaurant in Springfield

The Kebab Shack, a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant by the owners of MacCheesy's, is planning to open in mid- to late-November, according to a press release.

The menu is set to include shawarmas, kebabs, and vegetarian options such as falafel and salads. Guests will be able to eat in or take their food to go.

"Our aim is to further introduce the Springfield community to the delights of Mediterranean fare with a fun and casual menu of the region’s favorites," said owner Sherif A. Magd in the press release. "From kebabs to shawarmas and to falafel and colorful salads, there will be something for everyone on the menu, which will also embrace the naturally healthy aspects of Mediterranean cuisine. It's food that tastes good and is good for you.”

Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers location opens in Bolivar

On Tuesday, a Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers opened in Bolivar at 1725 W. Durango Drive.

The freestanding restaurant can seat 80 customers. This location is open 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

"The family-friendly atmosphere and strong community ties in Bolivar feel like a perfect fit for Freddy’s,” said Aimee Meyer, franchise owner.

There are currently three Springfield Freddy's locations — 615 W. El Camino Alto Drive, 3757 S. Glenstone Ave. and 2305 N. Glenstone Ave. — and one in Ozark at 1915 W. Marler Lane.
