KCCI has promoted Jason Sydejko to chief meteorologist.

Sydejko, a current morning forecaster at the local CBS affiliate, first joined KCCI in January 2015. The five-time Emmy nominee previously worked as chief meteorologist at FOX 21 in Duluth, Minnesota, and at WeatherVision in Jackson, Mississippi.

The news of Sydejko's promotion comes after Chris Gloninger's early July exit stemming from a "death threat" in response to his climate change coverage. Station management said Sydejko pours passion into his work.

"Jason has a rare combination of weather knowledge and a magnetic personality," KCCI news director Allison Smith said. "Jason is fun to watch, a trusted forecaster, and a valuable leader. We are excited to see him bring these together to lead our weather team."

In a release, the station added that Sydejko will lead KCCI's "Forecasting our Future" coverage, which examines "weather and climate's impact on business, health, finances and lifestyle."
