Kazuchika Okada is interested in competing in a wrestling world cup, and he’s willing to meet with Triple H and Tony Khan in order to make it happen.

Speaking with Tokyo Sports, the reigning IWGP World Heavyweight Champion noted that, like other World Cups, wrestling is a competition between countries.

“I used to be an All-Star, but last year we had the (soccer) World Cup, and this year we had the (baseball) WBC and Rugby World Cups,” Okada ssid. “Professional wrestling is also a competition between countries, and it would be interesting to fight as a representative of Japan. The soccer World Cup was fun, and I think the WBC will also be a stimulus.

Okada went on to describe how having a wrestling competition between countries on a global scale would be fun. He noted that it could allow him to team up with WWE’s Shinsuke Nakamura. Okada admitted that he doesn’t know if it would wok, but he believes it would be interesting.

“I think that kind of thing is being held overseas, but I don’t think there are any big competitions,” Okada said. “I think it would be fun to do something on a global scale. Maybe Okada and (Shinsuke) Nakamura will come out as a tag team. I don’t know if it will work. I thought it would be interesting to do it with various groups.”

The IWGP World Heavyweight Champion then pointed out that companies have been working together recently, as WWE and AEW stars competed at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom. He stated that he will go see Tony Khan and Triple H if necessary in order to make a wrestling world cup happen.

“Yes. I will go see Tony Khan and Triple H if necessary,” Okada said. “Even at the Tokyo Dome this time, there were AEW players (Kenny Omega, etc.), WWE players (Karl Anderson), and (Mercedes) Moné who quit WWE. The current New Japan is already worldwide, isn’t it? There are players from various countries, so I want to do something interesting. Somehow, when I was talking about it now, I really wanted to do it (laughs)”

Okada recently competed at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 in Yokohama Arena, and he has been announced for Keiji Muto’s retirement show on February 21.
