Katy Perry's Nearly-Naked Baby Bump Look Would Have Won the Met Gala

Katy Perry is definitely no stranger to turning heads at the Met Gala. From last year’s iconic chandelier dress to her angel wing ensemble, the singer loves, loves, loves a theme and any excuse to get all dressed up. Heck, even at home on lockdown, the star’s been finding ways to dress up, most recently donning a onesie patterned with fiancé Orlando Bloom’s face. But while the onesie may be Perry’s pregnancy-chic look at home, she had something a little different planned for the 2020 Met Gala: a nearly-naked baby bump look so fabulous that we can’t believe we won’t actually get to see it.

Perry announced her pregnancy back in March, with (of course) a music video celebrating this new journey in all of her baby bump fabulous-ness. In fact, Perry’s been showing off her baby bump any way she can since she could finally tell the world about it, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that her Met Gala attire was intended to do just that.

Like many other stars, the singer took to Instagram to mark the night that would have been the Met Gala, and sharing a photo of what she would have worn. After all, custom designs like Met Gala outfits take months to commission and create -- Perry and Jean Paul Gaultier have likely been working on this for a long time. The stunning get-up features a Madonna-esque cone bra and matching lining perfectly fitted (we assume) to Perry’s ever-growing bump, with straps that fasten comfortably at the low back.

What else would Perry have worn with this baby bump cover? Knowing her, and knowing the Met Gala, very, very little. Perry was all ready to dress up her unborn child like the royalty they are and present them to the world. Sadly, we won’t get to see her do it.
