Katy Perry Uses New Video For ‘Wide Awake’ To Slam Russell Brand

Sweet Revenge.Katy Perry’s genius new video for hit single, “Wide Awake,” out today, reveals the darkness in her heart and life after ex-husband Russell Brand blindsided her with a divorce.

Katy Perry loved, loved, loved Russell Brand, and was heartbroken by his cruelly unexpected divorce filing last Dec. 30, 2011.

There’s absolutely no question about that now. Katy‘s new video, “Wide Awake,” chronicles the deep depression she was trapped in after her Prince Charming- turned betrayer Russell Brand left her alone in a dark and crumbling world.

As she sings, “Falling from cloud 9, crashing from the high” and “You made it so sweet, Til I woke up on the concrete,” Katy searches for a way out of her blackened world, while the walls close in to crush her. All the life and light from her heart is extracted and sucked up into the dark heavens.

Only her younger, still hopeful self is her savior and protector, fighting off the depression monsters holding her prisoner.

“And now it’s clear to me, that everything you see, Ain’t always what you seem,” she sings to her heartless ex.

Every girl and woman who has been duped and dumped by a charming “prince” of a man, will feel deeply for Katy, when they watch her heartrending video.

We’ve all been there. And it doesn’t matter if you’re a superstar with bags of money and multiple hit songs, or a working woman or a college student, we’ve all been there – putting on a happy face, while our hearts which have been stamped on, crumble inside.

Thank you Katy, for showing us a way to overcome our heartbreak too!
