Katy Perry talks keeping pregnancy news under wraps, how her mom figured it out

Not even celebs are exempt from typical mom behavior.

Katy Perry shared how her mom ruined her and Orlando Bloom's pregnancy surprise in an interview with Sirius XM Thursday.

The California "Gurl" planned on revealing her baby news to her mom the same way she had with her friends: by putting the announcement on a wine label and gifting it.

Perry said she'd bring the wine to a "dinner or something, or I would give it as a gift to a friend, like, ‘Here’s a nice bottle of wine,’ and they would get the reaction later."

But she didn't get the chance to do the wine reveal with her mom.

"My mom, it was so weird, I didn't get the chance to do it because she just came over and was looking at my wine, which she never does, and she was like, 'What is this?' And that's how it happened," Perry said. "I guess moms have intuition unlike any other."

The pop superstar and "American Idol" judge made her pregnancy public by revealing her growing baby bump in the final moments of the music video for her new single "Never Worn White," Perry's first song of 2020.

After the music video premiered, Perry confirmed on Instagram Live that she's going to have a "jam packed summer" because she will be "giving birth…literally" to both a child and a new album. On Twitter, she added, "omg so glad I don’t have to suck it in anymore."

Though the announcement came as a surprise to her fans, Perry, 35, said the pregnancy was no shock.

"Well, it wasn't on accident," she said. "I'm so grateful for everything that I have been able to do and achieve and all the goals that I've been able to kind of check off my list and dreams, and the life I've lived thus far, and I think I've just been trying to create this space in my own life where I'm not running myself too ragged and like... creating space for something new to happen like this."

Perry continued: "We were both looking forward to this interval in life."

She noted that no one guessed she was pregnant even when her appetite kicked up a notch.

"I've always been hungry and I've never liked crunches so they just thought I was curvy and hungry," she said.

The artist also touched on being a working mom, saying she's "joining the force of working moms out there and that is a very strong force."

"I love what I do and it doesn't feel like work and it brings me so much joy so I just want to continue that state of joy," Perry said.
